Quirky & Unique Boho Wedding Venues In & Around Bedfordshire

Updated: Jun 29, 2020

If you are after a wedding that's a little different to the traditional manor houses and hotels then this is for you!

Here is my handpicked selection of some more alternative, quirky, personal, relaxed, smaller wedding venues in and close to Bedfordshire.

Lots of these venues offer a blank canvas for you to really put your own stamp on your wedding, perhaps you are really creative and want to completely style your own wedding, perhaps you have festival style wedding in mind with tipi's, fire pits, vintage tea parties....read on!

This alternative wedding venue located close to Bedfordshire in Tring offers a perfect backdrop and flexibility for you have your day the way you want it to be.

"Lila’s wood offers everything. A secluded glen for your blessing, or humanist ceremony. Perhaps followed by fizz and canapés. The option of a fully catered wedding breakfast set under the tree canopy, whilst the dappling leaf patterns and sunlight illuminate the canvas of our event tents. Rustic tables benches laid out with your theme in mind.

Beside the event tent sits our dramatic fairytale wedding mandap, dressed with wisteria and festoon lights. From here your wedding band plays whilst your guests schmooze.

_

We have a licensed bar made from reclaimed wood, a caravan ‘gin’ bar, hammocks and Indian Soux tipis in which your guests can unwind. There is even a nature pond where you can make a wish. Adjacent to the woodland is a field where guests can play games and children can let off steam.

_

As night falls the venue comes alive with twinkling fairy lights, and the crackling of enclosed fire pits. The woodland takes on an entirely new magic.  This can be accompanied by mellow acoustic music or a wedding band or DJ for those night owls. As midnight approaches the guests can retire to a village of bell tents in our camping paddock.

What could be better for the bohemian inspired bride or groom….."

Enchanted Woodland Weddings

"Bellows Mill is an idyllic old watermill nestling beneath the Chiltern Hills with the lake providing a picturesque setting for weddings. With exclusive use of the premises for the weekend, it is the perfect venue for those wanting a formal or informal country wedding.

We believe every wedding held at Bellows Mill should be as individual and unique as the couples choosing our venue for their celebration.

The choice of where to hold your wedding is a really important decision, so we encourage you to come to the venue to look around, ask questions and share your ideas. You will be free to stroll around the grounds and soak up the Bellows Mill atmosphere."

The lovely staff will endeavour to make sure it’s your day, your way.  That way, Bellows Mill barn, courtyard and lakeside can be transformed with your personal touches. You are free to choose your own suppliers and if required.

Located in Eaton Bray near Dunstable this alternative Bedfordshire wedding venue really is an amazing venue that treat couples really personally. You can chose your own catering, you could have hog roast, vintage afternoon tea, pizza van, vintage ice creams, street food vans... you name it. They have a fire pit you can gather with your nearest and dearest for a sing song or just a chill out. You can really do something special with the space at this venue. What I really love about this unique quirky boho Bedfordshire wedding venue is that you can have the whole wedding here including the ceremony and there is on site accommodation too.

Beautiful Kingsbury Barn is a perfect quirky near to Bedfordshire wedding venue "...a wooden wonder of medieval craftsmanship standing in the midst of St Michael's Village, St Albans.  Now carefully restored, it is ready to be enjoyed by the community that saved it."

Think of a beautiful tipi or stretch tent surrounded by stunning lavender fields. Here's an alternative Hertfordshire Wedding venue you can really make your own with vintage and handmade touches.

The most traditional of the venues on this list, it deserves a spot because its just so pretty, there are old fashioned gypsy caravans and pigs!

"The beautiful old Farmhouse of Tudor origin borders a barnyard of ancient listed timber framed barns, a Granary, Old Dairy, Tudor Barn, Horse Barn, Hovels & Stables. Idyllic gardens encircle the buildings, giving way to a productive, organic smallholding, a nature reserve and woodland."

Tewin Memorial Hall is super beautiful and Tewin is really pretty with the lovely little village green out the front. It also happens to be literally a minutes walk away from some huge fields perfect for some sunset couple portraits. This is a wonderful

Home Farm Glamping is a really beautiful space, in which you could really create your own wedding festival here. There are amazing glamping tents and a lot of space for extra camping to keep the party going. There's a huge opportunity for personalisation here. The bathrooms are even in proper cabins, which is a nice luxurious touch from the standard wedding loos you get at outdoor weddings.

"Wedding parties can have exclusive use of the whole four-acre site, which has accommodation for up to 51 people, so you can offer a tent to your nearest and dearest, allowing you to make a whole weekend out of your special day.

The secluded tree-lined lake is perfect for walks and private photos.

Our large covered barn can be used by caterers or set up as a separate party area away from the dance floor. Our two wood-hut bathroom cabins have 8 flushing loos, so there’s no need for portaloos."

This quirky and charming site provides a very unique location for a wedding ceremony and reception, and a great backdrop for your wedding photographs.

The Museum has 35 reconstructed buildings, seven of which are now licensed for civil ceremonies including an Iron Age roundhouse (believed to be the only one licensed for civil ceremonies in the country), tin chapel, Victorian toll house and Medieval barns.

The Museum is available on a dry hire basis only. There are no restrictions on suppliers and no corkage fees allowing you to plan a wedding suited to your own style. There are three barn wedding venues available: Northolt barn, Skippings barn, and Arborfield barn all of which are licensed for civil ceremonies. The Victorian toll house, Iron Age roundhouse, Henton tin chapel, and Thame Vicarage are also licensed for civil ceremonies. Each building can be hired separately, or as part of a combined package to increase capacity and spread your wedding across the beautiful site. If you are hiring Skippings Barn you can also hire your own marquee to go in the field next to it at no additional charge.

Another fantastic alternative unique local to Bedfordshire wedding venue "The Barn is just beautiful, a perfect setting for weddings. Freedom & flexibility to create your day, your way.”

We offer civil Ceremonies for up to 120 guests with a wedding breakfast seated in The Barn and up to 150 guests for a civil ceremony ONLY or to have alongside a marquee/tipi/yurt for 150+ guests for a wedding breakfast & evening reception. We have our clearspan marquee for up to 180 seated and 250 in total or alternatively you we can hire in a tipi/yurt/sperry sailcloth tent for bespoke weddings.'
